Learning is a process in which we learn information which we don’t know or do an activity which we couldn’t. From an other perspective , learning is to change previous behaviour. This is sometimes done consciously; sometimes un consciously. Learning has no limits but is a lifelong process. Learning can be defined as our previous experiences and the knowledge that we gain from it. However, nobody learns in the same way. Individual differences, such as level of intelligence and developmental aspects, affect the learning process directly. Especially learning styles have gained ground in learning for the last twenty years. Everyone uses their own methods for learning mew information, remembering that information and using it. Each individual perceives and recognizes their own experiences and knowledge. Some people are visual learners; some auditory and others kinaesthetic, in other words, by touching or by practicing. If we look at these three fundamental learning styles; people who learn visually need to see the other person’s facial expressions and body language clearly. During learning process in the classroom, to avoid any visual barrier they prefer sitting in the front row and usage of videos, slide shows, books with drawings help them learn more. Students who have tendency towards this type of learning take notes in detail during the lesson in order to internalize the knowledge. Auditory people learn mostly by listening carefully to the speeches of people or verbal lessons. They try to understand the underline meaning by concentrating on intonation, speed and other nuances. A written information means very little to them until they hear it. This kind of people learn more easily by reading the written texts aloud or using a voice recorder. Kinesthetic people learn by actively exploring the physical world around them. They cannot sit still for a long time. They need to move and explore and so they lose concentration in a very short time. Why is it important to know our learning style? - Those who know their learning style become better learners. This will lead the learner to be more conscious about the methods they will choose. - If the learning style of a person is diagnosed, it’s easier to choose a teaching style appropriate for him/her, and so the teacher may provide the appropriate atmosphere for the learner. - Knowing your learning style also provides information about the general domains of the career you may find best to choose. According to David Kolb, who has been doing researches on learning styles for years, learning styles are divided into four main parts. They are (Kolb’s learning styles and general features) Positionists-if there is?, Dissociatives-how?, Converters-why?, Assimilationists-what?. Nowadays teaching multiple intelligence is also taken into consideration as well as personal differences and learning styles of people. Human intelligence has been evaluated by various tests for years and most of the time people with higher scores have been regarded as intelligent. Yet again, researches claim that intelligence or being intelligent can be evaluated in different ways. In regard to Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory, human intelligence is multi-faceted and can be developed. Various Intelligence areas might affect the learning styles and career preferences of a person. The Relation between Multiple Intelligence and Learning There is a close relation between Multiple Intelligence and Learning style. Intelligence is defined as: the capacity of being able to create an output that is realized in one or more cultures, the ability of providing effective and productive solutions for the problems one confronts in daily life or the ability of discovering new and/or complicated problems that need to be solved. According to Multiple Intelligence Theory, various intelligence areas exist and that they could be displayed in different ways and improved. It is known that these intelligence areas are effective on the person’s career interests.
